Edema = fat feet
The swelling in my feet is starting up again. I was going to take a picture but it wouldn’t be such a pleasant picture. I tried wearing compression hose but it didn’t help too much this time. So I read up on it and the websites say to just elevate my feet and drink lots of water. Something definitely is going on with my body….just another symptom of pregnancy that I can’t control.
From babycenter.com:
“edema — that’s when excess fluid collects in your tissue. It’s normal to have a certain amount of swelling during pregnancy because you’re retaining more water. Changes in your blood chemistry also cause some fluid to shift into your tissue.
In addition, your growing uterus puts pressure on your pelvic veins and your vena cava (the large vein on the right side of the body that carries blood from your lower limbs back to the heart). The pressure slows the return of blood from your legs, causing it to pool, which forces fluid from your veins into the tissues of your feet and ankles.”

Friday night was dinner night. Sherri made some yummy pot roast and Strawberry shortcake for dessert.
Saturday, we went down to San Diego to watch Ryan’s t-ball game, then we watched UCLA win their game to make it to the final four and then celebrated my brother’s 38th birthday. Saturday night I had another restless night where I woke up at 2am and could not sleep. I watched tv for 2 hours and then was able to fall asleep for another 3 hours. I discovered there really isn’t that much to watch at 2am or 7am.
Sunday we lounged around watching more basketball and we watched the dvd, “The happiest baby on the block”. They teach you the 5 S’s, the methods to calm a baby. The S’s are: swaddling, side/stomach, shhhh-ing, swinging, and sucking. Pish practiced some swaddling this weekend. Check out his finished product. It was pretty good.

Later that night we headed to the Laker/Warriors game. It turned out to be a pretty exciting game. The Lakers were up by 20, then the Warriors were up by 10, but the Lakers made a come back and ended up winning the game. Kobe had a great first quarter but was not able to hit 50 points. We had a treat at the game too. Boyz II Men sang the national anthem and then even performed at half time. Here’s a couple pics.

So I had my first clumsy moment yesterday. On the way back to my car after our doctor appointment, I went to step up on the curb. I lost my footing and fell over onto the grass. Lucky I turned and fell on my side. I ended up falling on my right hip and broke the fall with my right elbow. My belly was untouched but it was scary. Me and Pish just looked at each other and both wondered if we should go right back up to the doctor’s office. I decided it was ok and would just go home, drink something cold to make sure the baby was still moving and she was. phew!! Now I just have a bruise on hip… Pish won’t let me wear my platform flip flops anymore.

We had our monthly ultrasound and doctor appointment yesterday. Everything went well. The ultrasound doctor said the baby is 3 lbs 13 oz. He said the baby was a bit small but still within the normal range (at 20th percentile). Here’s a picture of the baby holding her foot to her face.

It’s been a hectic week at work. Since so many people were laid off on Monday, the people that are left have to take over all the work. It’s a bit overwhelming and morale is so low. I’ve been in contact with some of the people that were let go and it’s so sad. They are so hurt that it happened so quick. They worked here for so long and then suddenly, they were given notice and had to pack up their things immediately. Why does the company have to do it that way?
Today we have a two hour department meeting to discuss the new organization structure. This should be interesting…I’m not sure I’ll believe what they say though. My name might be on the org chart now but will it be next week?
This baby has turned out to be good luck for me already and she’s not even born yet. I think she may have saved my job. In the back of my mind I wonder if they didn’t lay me off because I’m pregnant. I guess I’ll find out when I come back from maternity leave. But for now, I still have work. It’s not fun work but at least I’m working…
