No…I’m not talking about Katie’s poop.  That’s not the only thing we talk about here. 

I’m talking about “Solids” because Katie started eating rice cereal from a spoon this weekend!  Lately, she hasn’t been satisfied with her usual amounts of milk.  So I decided to try to give her solids.  Most people say to wait until six months but oh well.  She’s 5 months old today.  close enough…. You are supposed to start with watery rice cereal but it seemed too thin.  I ended up making it thicker and it was easier to feed her byt she is still not that used to the spoon yet so it was kind of messy.

I love these Robeez booties!  I’m thinking these would be perfect for Katie during our Whistler trip and look how cute they are with a skirt.  Too bad they are pretty pricey.  Is $40 too much to spend on shoes for a baby that doesn’t even walk yet??

My parent’s home remodeling is finally finished so we started taking Katie to their house on weekdays.  Pish takes her in the mornings and I pick her up after work.  I usually feed her and then head home just in time for the rush hour traffic.

On monday, I was lazy and just wanted to get home so I took the toll road (paying the $4.25 toll).  It’s convenient because the exit is closer to our house but it can be an expensive habit.  On Tuesday, I decided to save money and just take the 405.  As I got on the freeway I realized that since I had Katie in the car, I could take the carpool lane.  It was great.  All lanes were stopped and there was barely anyone in the carpool lane!  I need to teach Katie to wave at all the stopped cars.  bye bye suckers! 

We had a busy saturday this past weekend.  In the morning we attended Emily’s first birthday party at the Cerritos library.  It was really nice and the food was great!

Then at night we attended Jayme and Beck’s wedding. Luckily the rained cleared up and turned out to be perfect weather. The place was beautiful and we had so much fun catching up with my high school friends.

I can’t believe it’s been over a year since I started blogging!  Back on September 7, 2006 we found out I was pregnant.  It all started out as two vertical lines (http://www.bigseefut.com/2006/09/07/two-vertical-lines/) and now we have a real live baby that is almost 5 months old!  Nature is truely amazing.

 
Last night we went to Nick and Ly’s house for pizza night.  Siena is such a cutie!  Katie was really jealous about the hair though. 

For the past two days, my mom has held Katie over the toilet.  We were hoping she would poop but she peed!  Early stages of potty training??  She’s only 4.5 months old now.  It would be great if she knew how to pee in the toilet and Pish will be happy because we’d save money on diapers.  hehe 

Katie finally pooped!!  Six days….

This morning I tried to get a doctor appointment but they couldn’t fit me in until tomorrow morning.  In the meantime, I left a message on the nurse/doctor line so that I could actually talk to someone about it.  By 1pm I still hadn’t received a call so I called again and they said I would receive a call back by 2:3opm.  But I didn’t.

We couldn’t wait any longer so both Pish and I did some research online.  Some sites suggested prune juice so my dad went out to buy some.  My mom diluted one ounce of prune juice with two ounces of water.  At first Katie drank it but quickly realized it wasn’t milk.  But my mom tried again and she drank two ounces of it.  An hour later she had her normal milk and an hour after that it was an EXPLOSION.  My mom said the poop was liquidy, greenish-yellow and smelled REALLY bad.  Thanks for cleaning her up mom!

I think we all felt better that Katie finally got it out.  Hopefully she’ll be back on her regular schedule from now on.

We are pretty disappointed with our doctor’s office.  Later we found out they left a message on our home phone but I clearly left my cell phone number twice and this wasn’t the first time that they hadn’t called us back.  I think it is time to say bye bye to the Irvine Pediatrics Group.  We’ll be looking for a new pediatrician that is more reliable.

Sherri asked if we are still on poop watch and we are!  Poor little Katie still has not pooped.  I haven’t given her rice cereal in the past three days so that can’t be the reason she is constipated.  Luckily she is still her happy self and still smiles and plays.

I left a message for our doctor yesterday and a nurse called me back.  She said as long as Katie is not in distress we are ok.  I guess it is normal that after a growth spurt babies can go three or four days without a poop.  The nurse said to wait it out but if I really wanted to I could try using a rectal thermometer to try to stimulate it.   We weren’t ready to do that yet.

But then today….still no poop!  Come on Katie!  She’s been grunting a lot and even farts but still none of the brown stuff.  So today Pish and I tried the thermometer.  We set up a whole area with a plastic cover with wipes and paper towels ready.  Pish was expecting it to come squirting out.  With his plastic gloves on, he lubed up the thermometer tip with vaseline and stuck it in.  She really didn’t seem to mind much since I was distracting her with a toy.  but…nothing.  Pish asked, “This is the right hole, right?”  haha.  Next he lubed up his pinky and stuck that in.  still….nothing.  I thought that was enough so we put the diaper back on and are back to waiting. 

Tomorrow will be day six.  If she still hasn’t pooped I’m taking her to the doctor.

This past weekend we had lunch and watched the UCLA game at our house.  Jonathan was down in OC and is all recovered from his back and knee injuries.  It was great to see everyone!
