Missing home

My brother headed home this morning but before he got there he got a call telling him a new fire had started up and that it was still not safe to go home yet.  So tonight they are staying with some other friends in a safe area of San Diego and they will see how things are tomorrow.  Take a look at what Ryan wrote yesterday.

Last Saturday we took Katie to her first UCLA event and she did really well.  After her 5am feeding, we started our drive to the Rosebowl and got there even before the gates were opened.  We were just in time to meet up with Jorell and his crew to drive in together and get a really good spot.  After hours of good food and good fun, we headed into the sold out game.  It was really hot that day and I didn’t want Katie nor I to get sunburnt so I ended up sitting in the shade with her and all the other mommies and babies.   We listened to the game from just outside the tunnel and it was a great game!  We defeated the ranked Cal bears in the last minute of the game.  woo hoo!

HERE is some of ours but we didn’t take too many.

Fires

The Irvine fires aren’t that close to us but we can definitely smell the smoke.  Yesterday morning I drove through thick black smoke to get to work too.   While heading into work, I got a call from my brother saying they were heading up to OC because they had to evacuate their house in San Diego.  They had been up all morning and finally got the word to evacuate.  Scary!!  It got me thinking so I turned around, headed home and grabbed some of our important documents and computers just in case any fires started in our area.

At around 2pm, we had a power outage at work.  For about 20 minutes we all sat around and then the power came back on.  Darn!  We didn’t leave fast enough.  Well, the power was up but there was no internet access so they sent us all home.  So I went to hang out with my bro and family at my mom’s house.  By late afternoon my brother got word that the Coronado Hills fire (the one closest to their house) was 100% contained.  phew!  The air quality was probably still pretty bad so they slept at our house last night and will be heading home today.  We are so happy their house is ok.
