Happy Holidays or Merry Christmas?

November 30th, 2007

The lady in the cube next to me just spent over a half an hour on the phone discussing the difference between Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas.  Is it not politically correct to say Merry Christmas anymore?  With all the different religions out there, are people really offended when someone mentions Christmas?  Well, according to the lady next to me, most Jews don’t even mind so what’s the big deal?

Anyways…it’s almost time for Christmas and I love this time of year.  It means time for shopping, time with family and friends, gifts and all around happy holiday cheer.  I’ve already started listening to christmas songs all day.  It always makes me smile.  All except for one song.  Have you heard of the song called Christmas Shoes?  When I was pregnant, I watched the TV movie (starring Rob Lowe) based on this song and it made me cry.  So now, whenever I hear this song, I get a little choked up. :) Loading...

Well, Happy Holidays or Merry Christmas (whichever one doesn’t offend you)!!

Twinkle Twinkle = sleep

November 29th, 2007

A couple months ago, cousin Sammy gave Katie a really cute stuffed animal from Japan.  I named it Twinkle Twinkle but Pish likes to call it Twinkie.  Katie plays with it once in a while but since she started having separation anxiety, I experimented and gave it to her when I put her down to sleep in her crib.  She grabs onto it and snuggles her face into it.  So for the past two nights, there was no whining while falling asleep.  awesome!

Katie sometimes wakes up in the middle of the night but every morning it’s clockwork….she will always wake up between 4:30-5:30am to eat.  But…..since Twinkle Twinkle has become her bedtime buddy I think Katie doesn’t feel so alone anymore.  I’ve had to actually wake her up in the mornings when we go to work.  That never happens!  So now everyone is getting more sleep.  Yay Twinkie!  Let’s see if this lasts or if it’s just a fluke.

My dad is in Hong Kong right now and Katie misses him very much.  So this video was taken for him.

Hi Grandpa!  Katie is wearing the outfit you bought for her.

The shirt says:  I get cuter by the minute.  :)

Separated Stranger

November 27th, 2007

When Katie turned 6 months old she started to have a little stranger anxiety.  Our pediatrician warned us this would happen.  I guess her eye sight is better so she can recognize people now.  She used to go to anyone but recently she’d whine more if a new person held her.  Luckily she had no problems this past weekend.  She was happy and loved all the attention.  She probably loved it too much though.  Now she has separation anxiety! Yesterday, she wanted you to be no more than 3 feet away from her.  Then last night she woke up crying at 3am.  The only way she would calm down was if I let her hold my finger.  I think she just wanted to know I was there.  I’d wait for her to fall asleep again and try to sneak out but after about one minute, the screaming cry started again.  I tried to let her cry it out a bit but it breaks my heart.  After an hour of being unsuccessful to calm her, I fed her thinking that would help but it didn’t.  So I finally gave in and let her sleep in the twin bed with me.  I’m such a sucker.  I don’t want her to get used to this though so we’ll see if I can be strong tonight.

Happy Thanksgiving!

November 25th, 2007

We have a lot to be thankful for this year!

This past weekend was spent up in San Jose.  We drove up on Wednesday night while Katie was sleeping.  We hit some traffic and ended up getting there at 2:30am.  Driving at night is easier on Katie but harder on us.

Thursday was turkey day and we started preparations early.  Ishya came over with the brined turkey and we needed to rinse it off.  Not sure if we were supposed to but we rinsed it out on the sidewalk.  :)

Then it was time to stuff it, season it, and get it in the oven.   Here’s a before and after picture.  We named him Wilbur.  Isn’t he cute???

Mission “Cook Turkey” was successful!  There were was a little stress in the beginning.  The recipe said to rub oil all over the bird liberally.  So we did!  After ten minutes at 500 degrees, there was LOTS of smoke coming out of the oven.  The oil that dripped to the bottom of the pan was burning and we had two smoke detectors going off in the house.  There was chaos but we quickly got it under control.

The rest of the weekend was mostly spent hanging out with the family.  We also did a little shopping, the boys played some golf, we saw some of Pish’s high school friends and we ate a lot.  It was a fun weekend but it was COLD.  Pish and I would never survive up there.

On Saturday night we were really sad to say goodbye but had to start our drive home.  We miss you guys already!!

Exersaucer

November 21st, 2007

Thanks to Christine/Jack and Sherri/Ken for passing down the Exersaucer.  Katie loves it!  My mom says she’ll play in there for up to 30 minutes.  She was a little confused when we first put her in but immediately started playing with all the toys and learned to turn herself around 360 degrees.
