Happy Birthday to Katie!!! She’s growing up so fast! It seems like I gave birth to her just yesterday but look at her now.

Happy Birthday to Katie!!! She’s growing up so fast! It seems like I gave birth to her just yesterday but look at her now.
Pish, Katie and I got food poisoning this weekend. It was not pretty. It first started at 10:30pm when Katie vomited in her bed. We cleaned her up and moved her to another room. Within 10 minutes she vomited again but luckily Pish was able to catch some of it in his hand and rush her to the bathroom. Then we had to give her a bath because it was in her hair too. Then she was back in bed an vomited again into a bag ( I was a little more prepared this time) but still some got on the bed. So we moved her to the third room when I started to get sick myself. Vomiting and diarrhea are no fun. I couldn’t even lie down without feeling nauseous. I eventually took a dramamine and was able to sleep from 2-5am. Midnight was about the time Pish started having diarrhea too. Luckily he did not puke and was able to start some laundry in the middle of the night. Our house did not smell good.
At 5am, Katie started crying and I noticed that there was blood on the bed. Her nose was bleeding (at least it wasn’t puke but it was another contaminated bed). At 5:45am, I called my mom to see if she could come over to our house. I was hoping she could watch Katie while I cleaned up all the beds. Well, I ended up being too sick to even sit up so my mom watched Katie and cleaned up the house. THANKS MOM!!
Pish cancelled all his patients for the day and took Katie the doctor. He confirmed it was probably food poisoning and was not the Swine Flu. phew! He prescribed her some anti-vomiting meds and she was fine for the rest of the day.
We are all better today! I’m working from home and my mom is watching Katie again just to be safe but our schedules should be back to normal by tomorrow. I did talk to some people from the birthday party we went to on Saturday and more than 10 people got sick. They think it’s salmonella in the alfalfa sprouts from the wraps they served. (http://www.fda.gov/bbs/topics/NEWS/2009/NEW02001.html). Since we all got sick on Sunday night, we thought it was something we ate on Sunday but I guess that was not the case.
I’m just glad it’s not swine flu!! And don’t worry…I’m make sure there are no alfalfa sprouts at Katie’s party this weekend.
I went to the eye doctor today and it didn’t go so well. The doctor dilated my eyes and did her checks. My pressure was good but after the exam she said I had big cups. I wish that was true for my chest area but she was talking about my eyes. She’s not sure if this normal for me or if it is the beginning stages of glaucoma. So she referred me to a specialist to get it checked out.
My number was .7 which means I might have some optic nerve damage. I guess I just have to see what the specialist says but I’m a little worried because my mom had glaucoma at a young age of 40 (doctor said most people get in their 70’s) and this disease is hereditary.

The above photos show progressive optic nerve damage (indicated by the cup to disc ratio) caused by glaucoma. Notice the pale appearance of the nerve with the 0.9 cup as compared to the nerve with the 0.3 cup.
I’ve been trying to help our Earth more these days but recycling more, turning off lights, turning off my computer every night, and by re-using grocery bags. We all have that bag full of bags that we never use. Well, I started keeping 5-10 old Ralphs plastic bags and bringing it to the grocery store with me. When I paid they re-used the bags and gave me 5 rewards points for each bag. cool!
So yesterday I went to Ralphs with my bags and the checker said they wouldn’t re-use my bags. I could just drop them off at the recycling bin by the door. I asked her why and she said it takes too long to open each bag and customers were complaining it was slowing the line down. Are you serious?? Supposedly, cloth bags and paper bags are ok but plastic bags are not. I explained that last week it was ok. But the checker was actually kind of rude about it and said it’s a new policy. I reminded her that Earth day was coming up but she didnt’ seem to care. I could see the bag girl wanted to re-use and the checker eventually yelled at her saying if you want to take the time to open each bag, go for it! I probably should have reported that checker to the manager but I was too lazy. I’m going to check another Ralphs to see if it really is a store policy or a lazy checker. I hope the Earth spits on that checker.
Katie has been doing great at school. Two weeks of no crying when dropping off! That’s even with a week of spring break in between. She’s really growing up fast. I think it helped that there was another new kid starting and she saw him crying every morning. The teacher also said she’s been pee peeing and poo pooing in the potty. Every day after nap time, they put her on the potty and she’s been going. woo hoo!
I haven’t had much time to post this week but here’s some catch up from last weekend. My bro and family stayed at our house on Saturday night after we attended a Chinese wedding banquet. Then on Sunday we celebrated Easter at my mom’s house. The kids colored some eggs and we filled some plastic ones too. After a yummy Easter lunch, we had an easter egg hunt. Katie had lots of fun with her cousins!

Katie has had a residual runny nose for over a month. She knows how to get a tissue herself to wipe it but sometimes she just says, “Runny nose mommy!”. Earlier this week, I was brushing her teeth and there was drool running down her chin. She stopped me and said, “Runny mouth mommy!”. It was so cute.
Pish has a new weekly activity with Katie now. Swim classes! Here’s some pics from her 1st one. She did really well. I think she didn’t really know what was going on but still had fun. They swam with the instructor for 20 minutes and then got to go on a water slide! Thanks to Ly and Siena for bringing us to another activity! Siena is an expert and can float on her back.
Katie did not want to sit on the potty all weekend. I guess last week’s pee in the potty was a fluke. On Sunday, I put her in underwear and fed her lots of water. I asked her every couple minutes if she needed to pee. She said no. I kept talking about the potty but she just wanted to play. After about 15 minutes, she looked down and said, “Uh oh..pee pee”. ah..pee down her leg! No luck going in the potty. We’ll try the underwear again this weekend…
Here’s some random pics of Katie. I leave her alone with Pish for 10 minutes on friday and this happens!
On Friday and Saturday, Katie played with her friend Siena. We had dinner on Friday, Gymboree Saturday morning and some playtime at the mall afterwards. Thanks for inviting us to go Gymboree with you! This was Katie’s first time at Gymboree and she had fun climbing on everything.
On Saturday evening, we attended Johnny and Joy’s wedding reception in Cerritos. I forgot my camera but see below for a pic I stole from cousin Nina’s blog. The party was really fun and the food was awesome! Well, except for the extra spicy pork that burned my mouth for at least 10 minutes. My favorite was the sticky balls wrapped in lettuce. Katie was shy at first but then had lots of fun. She was partying it up on the dance floor and stayed up past 9:30pm! (note: she’s been going to be at 7:15 on weeknights)
Congrats again to Johnny and Joy! We are so happy for you.
