Last weekend, we headed down to San Diego to babysit Ryan and Kennan. We hung out in the morning and went to their afternoon baseball games. Later Ryan went home with a friend and Kennan came home with us for a sleepover. Katie had SOOO much fun. They talked and played non-stop. Listening to their conversations was so fun. On Sunday we went furniture shopping and went to a ceramic store for them to do a project. Katie was really sad when Kennan had to leave and asked, “Next time Kennan sleeps over can she stay forever?”

I am finally getting around to posting about Katie’s birthday. The celebration started at school on Friday, April 30th. I didn’t have time to bring snack to her school this time but I did make her the poster to below. Her classroom has a tradition of birthday posters and they do a birthday walk where the class sings happy birthday to them.

Then on Saturday, we had a Care Bear party at Partyopolis. It is a warehouse with big jumpers in it. I only invited little kids but it ended up the adults were allowed to jump too! Everyone got to jump for 1.5 hours and then we moved into the party room for pizza and cake. I was really jealous that I could not jump or slide.
Those things looked so fun!!

I was also really excited about the Mother’s day gifts I made for my mom and pish’s mom. I ended up giving it to my mom early and brought it to Katie’s party to share with everyone. It is a mosaic made up of 2000+ pictures of Katie. The moms loved it!

Last weekend, Katie was invited to her first school friends’ birthday party. It was a dual birthday party and I had met the girls’ mom at school once and they were very nice.
Katie was very shy when we first got there. But after 20 minutes or so, she was running around with all the girls. She especially liked one of the older girls dressed up at Ariel. The theme of the party was princess and pirates. Upon arrival, each child was given a costume to wear. Katie chose Belle from Beauty and the Beast. I thought they had rented the costumes but they were actually for each child to keep. So nice!
Katie had a great time and also tried Chocolate Milk for the first time! She loves chocolate. Click HERE for more pics.

Here’s a video of Katie singing the capitals of the Southern Border states. Pish didn’t want to be in this video but I tried to cut him out.
I finally asked Katie’s teacher about the states songs and she said they do sing it at school. I borrowed the CD and we have all the songs now! Katie knows the Southern, Eastern, Northern, Pacific borders and the middle states. Also, all the capitals that go along with them. I love school!

Katie’s cousin Erin and Jamie are visiting from Northern California for spring break. They are having lots of fun hanging out at my mom’s house. While they do their homework, Katie watches and pretends to do some too. Jamie is in the 5th grade and is learning all the capitals of the United States. She also taught Katie a state song and told me that I could find it on you tube.
So when I got home, I looked for the song but happened to click on one called the Southern Border of the United States. All of sudden Katie started busted out singing and she knew all the words!! She later told me that she learned it in school.
She kept wanting to sing it over and over. I had to tear her away to take a shower but promised her she could come back after she was cleaned up.
Now I can’t get the song out of my head!…the Southern border of the UNITED states!

Yesterday I got a Hitting Report from Katie’s school. This is the second one I’ve received. Luckily, she’s not the one hitting. She was the one who got ”swatted” in the face. The teacher was very apologetic but it’s not her fault. Kids are kids and as long as Katie is not the one hitting, it’s ok. She wasn’t hurt so it was not a big deal to me. The teacher said, “You are so cool” and later Pish said, “That other kid better have gotten a report sent home too!”.

This weekend, we made the most of our friend’s Home Owner Association dues by inviting ourselves to their association’s easter celebration.
They had an easter egg hunt, pictures with the easter bunny, face painting, cupcake decorating, a jump house and a trackless train. Katie had a lot of fun.

BIG thanks to Auntie Christine and Catelyn who gave Katie a new book. She LOVES it!! Each page is like a scrapbook for her to enter text or pictures. It is a new project for her and she already started working on some of the pages.
Cover page: Not sure why she picked a picture where she is not smiling but she picked it!

Page #1: Katie wrote her name with very little guidance from Pish.

Page #2: On this page we decided to let her write by herself. We told her to write a 2 but she drew a rectangle and started to color it in. So I wrote a 2 on a piece of paper and then she wrote it here in the book by herself. Next we asked her favorite color and she said blue. Again, I wrote it on a piece of paper for her to look at it and she wrote it in the book. Favorite food was Mac N Cheese. Favorite Song was ABC. Favorite toy was Hello Kitty.

Katie started her first week in the big kid’s class. The new teacher said she had no problems adjusting to the new classroom or to the new kids. Katie is eager to do the new work and often likes to work with other kids. They seem a bit stricter in this room though. The school is already sugar free and peanut free but now the teacher is encouraging us NOT to put juice boxes in her lunch (even though it is already 100% juice). The prefer milk or water because if the kids get juice, they finish the whole drink and then don’t finish their lunch. maybe they are just thirsty???
Last week, her toddler class teachers were very sad to see Katie go. I was surprised at how much they were affected by kids leaving their room and made us promise to visit them. They also made this for Katie as a good bye gift. The blue and pink dots are Katie’s finger prints.
